"Oh...That Coconut Bread."
You know the one.
...
A cracked, Jack-O-Lantern-esque smile. How appropriate. It was, after all, two days before Halloween.
The oven door was in working order.
...
Hope inflated. Taste buds deflated.
...
"It's okay, but I like the coconut oatmeal cookies much better." I said.
"They are good cookies." He said.
...
Oh well.
...
It smelled so good, though (except when toasted—my senses protested—something funky about the coconut).
...
Tuesday night and the world is my oyster.
...
Had it not been for the screw on the floor we would not have known about our fixed oven door.
The screw on the floor? Don't tell me you have a little repairman-fairy who steals in to fix appliances when you are not home. Very cool. ; )
ReplyDeleteSorry the coconut bread wasn't quite to your liking. That is always disappointing. :-( Thrilled to bits your oven is fixed though!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI hate it when that happens.
ReplyDeleteI once made a whole batch of strawberry shortcakes and accidentally used baking soda instead of baking powder. I looked forward to them all night, but they tasted like licking the back of a metal spoon. ::sigh:: But it's great you found the screw!
Thank goodness the oven is fixed. Sorry about the loaf but those cookies did look hard to beat.
ReplyDeleteI can almost smell the coconut! But the oven door? Oh no! Glad it's fixed... this time of year life without an oven would be a crisis!
ReplyDeleteHooray, the oven is fixed!
ReplyDeleteI take a little comfort when things don't quite taste right that it may mean my palate is becoming more sophisticated. Or at least that's what I try to tell myself, you know?
Michelle - We do have a little repairman-fairy :)
ReplyDeleteTart - I do need to revert back to cautious optimism when it comes to baking...
Nicolette - I'm always afraid I'll make that same mistake.
Kath - I'm making the cookies again this weekend. Baking therapy :)
Katie - Crisis, it was.
elizabeth - I like the way you think :)
The cake certainly turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI think we all know that feeling and then you instantly regret not making something else. More importantly though, I'm pleased to hear the oven door is fixed. Life without it would be unbearable. My hand blender has died on me but I'll probably wait until my return from England in December to replace it.
ReplyDeleteThe cake sure looks fabulous. There's always next time now that your oven is fixed...something to look forward to! :-)
ReplyDeleteToo bad it was just okay, but it happens...right? It is still very pretty. I'm sure you are thrilled to have your oven door in working order. Time to bake!
ReplyDeleteBaking with coconut fills the house with the most heavenly smell... Mmmmm this recipe is so tempting.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of curious about this coconut bread...
ReplyDeletecould the recipe be tweaked somehow, to make it taste better...coconut is such a great flavor.
