In Between
There was one word in the body of the email.
Carbonara?
...
Roll the r's, if you can. It makes all the difference in the world.
My tongue gets caught.
I could tell he was happy the moment he stepped through the door. I, the bacon, had greeted him. Well.
There were mushrooms. Cremini. Two eggs. A mountain of Parmesan. A generous stack of bacon. Fresh parsley from the yard. Tons of black pepper. Shallot, too. And, fusilli.
...
We are constantly reminding ourselves to chew.
Fantastic. Is it gone? I'd love a bowl for lunch.
ReplyDeleteDenise, it disappeared as quickly as it was made...
DeleteLove it when the economy of the one-word email works!
ReplyDeleteI believe in economy of words :)
Deletethat one word email speaks wonders of your relationship. Intimacy revealed in frugal words and meals.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing better than creating something genuinely incredible out of very little.
DeleteDon't mind me--that's just the rumble of my stomach at 11 in the morning.
ReplyDeleteHave those kinds of rumbles at 10:00 in the morning. Sometimes earlier.
Deleteyum. I can't roll my r's but so wish I could. my husband is half-Italian and my pronunciation is a source of pain to him. and too often, we forget to chew..
ReplyDeleteI can spell it, read and understand it, but speaking it...poor me. I am working on it. Chewing is overrated...
DeleteTracy,
ReplyDeleteI love your posts.
Just that.
Kiss,
N.
Nenou, thank you :) Your comment made my day.
DeleteI rolled the R when I read your comment :)
ReplyDeleteOh I had missed this blog so so much. I clicked on the icon that saves it to my favorites almost fearing that it would be different, that i wouldn't recognize it bus no. It's still SUCH a pleasure to read it. I just devoured your last ten posts like you inhaled these bowls of pasta... reminding myself to chew. still love your blog. like always.
ReplyDeleteIt's true rolling makes all the difference. I have problems rolling.
ReplyDeleteBeing greeted by bacon sounds like my sort of welcome. Good lunch
Just thinking of you. Off cooking something delicious, I presume. Hope you are having fun.
ReplyDeleteFill my house with the smell of bacon anytime, my friend. It's a joy! As always, this looks lovely. Thank you for reminding me about this dish. It's always a pleaser. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour descriptions of life in the kitchen are as delicious as your recipes. How I wish I could roll my r's for Italian and also Finnish. One the reasons I like Danish is because that letter is pronounced so weakly, although unfortunately the rest of the language is a series of glottal stops. I think I could never learn Spanish with the single and double r.
ReplyDeleteHello Tracy, I've missed reading about your days. Hope all's well x
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking the same lately...
DeleteA coincidence that I stop by to echo Kate and Denise's thinking. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteSame here! Nancy
ReplyDeleteMe too, missing your lovely thoughts. x
